with Nicholas Hutchison
Hi everyone. And welcome back to Success To Significance, Life After Breaking Through Glass Ceilings. I’m your host, JenDu Plessis, we are delighted to have you here today, and we wanna say thank you for taking time out of your day to listen to us. If you’re brand new, welcome, welcome to our community. If you’ve been listening for a while.
Thank you. Thank you so much for listening, um, on a regular basis. And thank you so much for all of the feedback that I get all of the time. I, it is so wonderful to hear from all of you . Today our guest. Nicholas quote, Nick right Hutchison. And, um, so he goes by Nick and we, uh, wanna welcome here today.
Welcome here today. He is with “Book Thinkers” and we’re gonna have a great conversation about, uh, getting your name out there. So welcome to the show, Nick, we’re happy to have you
Jen, I’m excited to be here. Thank you for the invitation and, uh, there’s no place. I’d rather be, I love conversations like this.
Yeah. So it’s really good that we’re, we’re finally together as we were talking in the green room, you know, we’ve met about, well, gosh, it seems like it’s been more than a year, but I guess it’s only been it’s since September.
Yeah
I know isn’t that crazy? It seems like it’s longer, but, um, you know, we met at prosperity camp as part of secret knock and had a great conversation and, uh, You know, I was just really impressed with what you all are putting together and wanted to have you on the show.
So we’re glad to have you here. So I wanted, if you don’t mind, I’d like for you to tell me a little bit about what you were telling me, um, in the green room, again, you know about your history. I know that you played sports and I was a jock too, by the way. Um, but uh, I thought, you know what I did. I wanna tell you my story, not a big story, but I wanna tell you a story real quick.
I should have said this before, but, um, so I played a lot of sports. As well. And, uh, so I wasn’t a big, big reader, but I was accepted, uh, to Colorado state university for pre-med. I was going to be a cardiologist and I thought, oh, I better learn how to read better and faster. Right. And so I took a speed reading class and, uh, that was my, the first class I took, cuz I thought, oh, I won’t be reading the hard stuff.
You know, in the beginning and I’ll take this speed reading class and, uh, ended up reading, you know, I’d watched the Titanic, right? The old Titanic, not the new one. I’d watched the old Titanic. I knew a little bit about it, but, um, not a lot. Right. But I had to read the Titanic for my final in 20 minutes.
And then I had 85% comprehension and the rest is history. I now read anywhere from three to five books a week.
I love it.
Yeah. So when people say what’s your favorite book? I. I don’t know, there are a few, but not many. So that’s my, kind of my story about the fast lane to, oh, I better learn. So tell us about your story.
Sure. So growing up, I had amazing parents. I mean, they encouraged education and we were all great students. I have three younger brothers, but, uh, I wasn’t into the school scene. I mean, I really wasn’t. I played football and, and I wrestled in high school. I was in the weight room. I was having fun with my friends.
I was not much of an academic and I was one of those people that took AP calculus. But I figured out that if you got a 0% homework, average, you could still pass. And so I had a 0% homework average, like I just wasn’t into the academic stuff, but I was capable of doing. And then sort of fast forward to college.
I was running a house painting business in college. I was hiring my friends. I was doing door-to-door sales. I was learning very fast. I sort of hit a wall. I said, I need to learn from somebody else. And so I took an internship at a local software company between my junior and senior year at college. And one of my early sales mentors in that role introduced me to the world of podcasting.
Funny enough.
